What is Feng Shui?
Feng Shui is the Chinese art focusing on the flow of Qi (life’s energy) and a way of understanding how it moves in our surroundings and how our buildings, their interiors, and our environment affect us. By applying Feng Shui you find that you have opportunities to improve every aspect of your life. Feng Shui promotes appreciation of beauty, balance, light and tranquility.
It may sound like an obscure Chinese dish but literaly translates to “wind and water”. Feng means water (a symbol, analogy for wealth) and Shui means Wind.
What are the elements of Feng Shui?
Feng Shui is heavily influenced by the theory of the Elements. In the Chinese scheme of the Universe, there are five of these elements: Fire, Water, Wood, Metal and Earth. So, the candles are only one element – Fire. When we burn them we will experience the element of fire.
The five Elements are also associated with colors, seasons, directions, and planets.
– Fire is red, an auspicious color. Fire is also Summer and the South.
– Water is represented by the color black. It is also the North and Winter.
– Wood is green and it is also the East and Spring.
– Metal is white or sometimes gold. Metal is symbol of the West and Autumn.
– Earth is yellow and it is the Center.
Five Elements have a mutually Productive Cycle and a mutually Destructive Cycle.
In the Productive Cycle Fire produces Earth, which produces Metal, which produces Water, which produces Wood, which produces Fire.
In the Destructive Cycle Wood destroys Earth, which destroys Water, which destroys Fire, which destroys Metal, which destroys Wood.
If one were born in the EARTH year, then having too many plants (Wood) would not be very auspicious. On the other hand, having red things, lights etc. (Fire) would be very conducive since Fire produces Earth. Earth people should sleep near or at the center portion of the house.
